Typo 37 is here!

14 October 2009 is an important milestone for TYPO Magazine. Not only we published the 37th issue of the magazine, but we also launched a brand new website with many great fetaures. Don’t forget to follow TYPO Twitter channel typo_en.

The “Mexican” Issue of TYPO features an overview of trends in contemporary Mexican type design and examples of the most important custom-made newspaper and magazine fonts made in the past fifteen years by Oscar Yáñez, a Typo Essay by Alejandro Cabrera Ávila or or an article How print arrived to the New World by Cristóbal Henestrosa. Rubén Gallo wrote an essay on the Stridentism avant-garde movement based on the analysis of a yet-unknown calligram from 1923, designed by one of the most well-known activists of Stridentism Manuel Maples Arce.

Typo.Project section features an article The rediscovery of Boudewijn Ietswaart by Feike de Jong about the work of half-forgotten Dutch designer whose types made in the Mexico City in early 1960s were digitalised nearly 40 years later by the members of the Círculo de Tipógrafos group.

Filip Blažek wrote a short overview of the life and work of Czech graphic designer, typographer, lecturer and writer Bohuslav Blažej, who due to unfortunate historic circumstances did not become a European design star. Regular section Typo.Font offers a review of Tabac, a new type family designed for magazine and newspaper setting from the hand of Czech typographer Tomáš Brousil.

From now on, you can subscribe to TYPO on-line, you can also buy single issues. Stay tuned, our website will soon offer you many new features!
